The 16th edition of the Jesús Serra Ski Trophy held by Fundación Occident returns to Baqueira Beret with a record number of participants

"During the tournament, the foundation part of GCO awarded its renowned Fundación Occident Grants, which are aimed at training young talent."

With a record number of 278 entries, Fundación Occident held the traditional Jesús Serra Ski Trophy on the slopes of Baqueira-Beret this Saturday, 2 March. The tournament, which combines sport and training, is noted for its social aspect and acceptance of all audiences.

This time around, the event attracted various national and international skiers that competed on a day marked by the difficult weather conditions affecting Baqueira during the weekend, specifically the Stadium (Beret) slope, where the Trophy was held. However, thanks to the intensive care of the slopes, the championship was able to take place with complete normality.

As is already customary in this tournament, at the end of the competition, Fundación Occident awarded the Fundación Occident Grants to the winners of the Parallel category. These grants are aimed at supporting the training of young talent with a €15,000 prize for scholarships.

Innovative format with a night Parallel Slalom

The Jesús Serra Ski Trophy consisted of two race modalities that were held on the same day in an innovative and completely disruptive format, for any level and category: the night Parallel Slalom. The Giant (GS) modality took place in the morning, where the U12, U14, U16, U18, U21 and the various Masters categories participated.

After giving out the awards in the GS category, the men with the 32 best times and women with the 32 best times qualified for the night Parallel Slalom, which is a shorter route than the GS and where skiers compete in two-leg qualifying rounds.

As a result, the Parallel Slalom is divided into three categories, with the aim of providing skiers with the opportunity of competing for the Fundación Occident Grants:

  • Training Category (participants between 13 and 16 years old): Trophy + ETEVA Grant (First-tier certificate for alpine skiing) for the competition's men and women winners + Salomon Products + ISDIN Products + Subscription to the Esquí Pro 2024 catalogue
  • Fundación Occident Grants Category (participants aged 17 to 25): Trophy + €15,000 scholarship prize to share among the top finishers + GPS Coros Pace 3 watch + Salomon Products + ISDIN Products + Subscription to the Esquí Pro 2024 catalogue
  • Masters Experiences Category (26 years old and above): Trophy + Gift vouchers for La Roca Village + ISDIN Products + Subscription to the Esquí Pro 2024 catalogue

The day ended at around 20:00 celebrating the Parallel Slalom's awards ceremony, with Ana Borrás winning the ƀ3,000 scholarship, followed by María Ruíz and Andrea Rodríguez, in the women's Fundación Occident Grants category. As for the men's category, Romain Carle finished first, also opting to the ƀ3,000 prize, followed by Xavier Cornellá and Conrad Sastre, winner of the last edition.
