4 tips for getting a good online reputation

"Online reputation refers to the image a person projects on the internet, and is the moment when users start to form an opinion on this person. For this reason, in the global and digital society of the 21st century, it is essential to look after and control your online identity."

NorteHispana Seguros, an insurance company that forms part of the Catalana Occidente Group, has launched a new service to help users look after their image and reputation online. Specifically, this is an online presence report, which provides an analysis of the customer's digital identity. Furthermore, in its attempt to protect and improve the reputation of its insured customers, the company has four key pieces of advice:

1. Honesty and sincerity

Online information about a person must be true. This aspect is highly relevant from a work perspective, given that more and more companies go to social networks to find candidates for a position, or contrast and compare information included on a CV. Providing false information about your career or work profile can cause a loss of trust and credibility.

2. Politeness

Any comment published on social networks, forums or review sites should be done so from a position of respect and good manners. Furthermore, it should be taken into account that opinions and reviews that a user publishes online can help strengthen their reputation, but can also have the opposite effect, especially if the content is false or inappropriate.

3. Perpetuity

In order for your participation in forums or group discussions online to contribute to improving your reputation, you must argue your opinions with objective and accurate data. This will allow the community to see the user as someone who provides added value to the conversation.

The user should also be aware that their comments will be published online permanently, and so before writing an impulsive opinion, it is better to think about it calmly first. You should also be aware that certain topics can cause more controversy.

4. Privacy

It is also important to protect privacy. To do this, you need to check your privacy settings on different social networks and adapt it to the security level you want. Thus, we recommend that you do not leave your profiles open, and protect your passwords to avoid other people stealing your user identity and publishing from your profiles.
