Fundación Occident closes the 8th edition of its Xpress Tennis Cup with a record number of participants

"The championship, with its innovative format, has become firmly established as one of the most important dates on the national tennis calendar after reaching 1,833 participants. "

The Xpress Tennis Cup, the grassroots tennis tournament promoted by Fundación Occident and the sports firm Wilson, closed its eighth edition after another highly successful event, reflected in the high level of participation with 71 clubs and 1,833 players from the autonomous regions of Madrid, Valencia and Catalonia.

This tournament, which has become consolidated as a reference in formative tennis, stands out for its format with 20-minute express matches and player rotation every two points. This game design not only promotes competition, but also teamwork and cohesion among participants, in an environment of fun and fellowship.

From March to June, players from the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community and Catalonia represented their respective tennis clubs in the eight provincial stages and two grand finals of this tournament, which took place in the capital city of each autonomous region. Thus, the Xpress Tennis Cup held the first autonomous stage in the Community of Madrid, with a total of 11 clubs and 280 children participating. The eighth edition continued in the Valencian Community, with a total of 820 players. Finally, the Xpress Tennis Cup closed in Catalonia with a total of 733 participants. This year, the tournament has witnessed a good level of play and the commitment of clubs to promote grassroots tennis.

The Managing Director of Fundación Occident, Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo, welcomed the sporting initiative and said that “this unique competition encourages the playing of tennis among youngsters and prioritises essential sporting values for our society, such as teamwork and empathy with both rivals and colleagues, all in a fun setting”.

The Xpress Tennis Cup, an initiative developed by Fundación Occident in 2017, has seen a constant evolution in its tournament, attracting recurring and new teams that join the project of promoting grassroots sport.
