Grupo Catalana Occidente attends to 20% more calls after activating a special device in response to the heavy rain in Tarragona

Grupo Catalana Occidente received 20% more calls from customers between Friday and Sunday, compared to the usual figures, due to the heavy rain that affected the province of Tarragona last Friday.

In this type of weather event, the most frequent incidents that insured parties usually report are damage or blockage in pipes and drains; leaks caused by heavy rainfall; and the accumulation of water on terraces, known as the swimming pool effect. In addition to electrical damage due to overvoltage and breakage of glass.

For this reason, the insurer has intensified its repair and expert appraisal services in order to minimise inconvenience caused to those affected. Specifically, between Friday and Monday Grupo Catalana Occidente had already contacted a total of 220 customers who required repairs or appraisal reports.

Claims Director at Grupo Catalana Occidente, Adrià Diez, stated that "at Grupo Catalana Occidente we want to inform our insured parties that we are working hard to provide a fast and effective service to all those affected."

The Insurance Compensation Fund (CCS) is the entity that covers extraordinary risks arising from natural or climate phenomena, such as that which recently occurred in Tarragona.

The CCS is a public body that is financed by a small amount included in the price of any insurance policy and which is deposited in a guarantee fund destined to cover extraordinary risks among all insured persons in Spain.
