Grupo Catalana Occidente collaborates with Save the Children to guarantee the right to education for at-risk children

"More than 430 children from the towns of Leganés (Madrid), Barakaldo (Vizcaya) and Canovelles (Barcelona) are participating in the project. "

Grupo Catalana Occidente, through the Fundación Jesús Serra, is collaborating with Save the Children to offer the programme "Guaranteeing the right to education among the most vulnerable children." This project is based on understanding education as a key driver for bringing children out of the poverty cycle and ensuring they have a brighter future. The project aims to prevent at-risk children from dropping out of school.

This initiative is being carried out in Leganés, one of the municipalities with the largest child population in the Community of Madrid; in Barakaldo, the municipality with the highest rate of unemployment in the province of Vizcaya (at 20%, 7% higher than the national average); and in Canovelles, a town in Barcelona where children between 0 and 16 make up 21% of the population.

To achieve the aims of this shared programme with Save the Children, Individual Education Plans have been developed in which children between the ages of 6 and 12 receive support throughout the school year and are supported by adults in suitable spaces for study. The programme also aims to close the digital divide between young people caused by socio-economic disparities.

The agreement between Save the Children and Grupo Catalana Occidente also takes into account the psychosocial scope of programme participants with the aim of improving intra-family relations and strengthening the educational skills of parents, offering customised assistance from psychotherapists to participating children.

Through the Fundación Jesús Serra, the insurance group thus continues its collaboration with Save the Children, which began to provide care to families in situations of vulnerability due to the Covid-19 crisis last year through its "A tu lado" project.

The Managing Director of the Jesús Serra Foundation, Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo, commented that "both Grupo Catalana Occidente and Fundación Jesús Serra seek to continue working together to guarantee children's rights to education", adding that "continuing to collaborate with Save the Children allows us to reach the neediest families, in collaboration with an organisation that sets the standard in its assistance to children."

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Save the Children, Andrés Conde, stated that "education is the most powerful tool for changing the future of disadvantaged children", adding that "thanks to alliances like this, we can continue to provide the tools and support necessary to the most vulnerable children so that they can develop to their full potential."
