Grupo Catalana Occidente joins Nactiva, the first market builder for the protection and regeneration of natural capital in the Mediterranean

"The insurance group is the founding partner of the platform, the aim of which is to identify, select, design, seek financing and support the implementation of business projects that activate the stock of natural resources in the Mediterranean. "

Grupo Catalana Occidente joins the creation of Nactiva, the first market builder to protect and regenerate natural capital, which aims to generate a transformative impact throughout the Mediterranean region. As a founding partner of the initiative, the insurance group strengthens its commitment to sustainability, supporting a platform whose aim is to generate a triple impact on the territory, at an ecological, social and business level.

Nactiva is a company of common interest and benefit (SBIC) financed by its partners, including Grupo Catalana Occidente. Based in Barcelona, the platform allocates all its income and future profits to identifying, selecting, designing, accelerating, obtaining funding and supporting the implementation of business projects that regenerate the natural capital of the territory in four thematic areas: Water, Coast, Forests and Land.

In the words of the Director of Investor Relations and Sustainability of Grupo Catalana Occidente, Nawal Rim, "it gives us huge satisfaction and a sense of responsibility to be part of the first market builder for the protection and regeneration of our natural capital, an initiative that was created with the aim of connecting economic and social agents to generate a positive impact on the territories in which we operate". In this regard, Rim stated that "at Grupo Catalana Occidente we have always integrated sustainable value creation into our strategy, in order to obtain good financial results and promote the well-being of our stakeholders and that of the different communities in which we are present".

For his part, the CEO and founder of Nactiva, Joan Cabezas, said that "Nactiva was created as a collective platform for activating "Business & Nature" projects in order to accelerate and maximize impact, promote scalability and value generation". A project that, according to Cabezas himself, "would not be possible without the collaboration of our founding partners".

Nactiva, which studied more than 25 existing initiatives in its conception phase, begins its activities with a focus on the implementation of five programmes and a dozen projects that fall within four main thematic areas: Nactiva Forests, for the development of sustainable forest projects in the Mediterranean forests; Nactiva Land, focused on the development of an integrated value chain for the cultivation, processing and distribution of plant protein products, as well as the development of technified and regenerative agriculture for the production of vegetables near Metropolitan Areas; Nactiva Coast, for the development of a new concession model for the transformation of ports into eco-proactive spaces and the regeneration of biodiversity; and Nactiva Water, for the transformation of the industrial colonies of the Llobregat River in R&D hubs of natural capital and the development of tourism, leisure, educational and wellness businesses.
