Grupo Catalana Occidente renews its commitment to the planet in ‘Earth Hour’

"The insurance company will be switching out the lights on the group’s most iconic buildings this Saturday 27 March from 8.30 to 9.30 pm to participate in the initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) "

For one more year, Grupo Catalana Occidente will be taking part in ‘Earth Hour’ by switching out the exterior lighting on its most representative buildings on Saturday 27 March. This initiative, promoted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), seeks to raise awareness on the pressing need to address climate change and promote energy saving.

A score of Grupo Catalana Occidente’s most iconic buildings spread across eight Spanish cities will be taking part in the symbolic ‘lights-off’ action. These include the buildings in: Plaza de las Cortes, Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid; the corporate buildings located in Sant Cugat del Vallés; Paseo de Gracia and Diagonal in Barcelona; in Avenida San Francisco Javier and Calle Adolfo Rodríguez Jurado in Seville; Calle Rodríguez Arias in Bilbao and Los Rosales in Getxo.

‘Earth Hour’ is a global movement that consists of switching out the lights on buildings and monuments for one hour with the aim of attracting attention and raising awareness among the world’s population on changing consumer habits and taking a common stance against climate change. With this initiative, Grupo Catalana Occidente wishes to reaffirm its commitment to caring for the environment and sustainability.

In this regard, the insurance group supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in accordance with the 2030 Agenda, fostering aspects such as economic growth and progress, equal opportunities, quality learning, energy efficiency and caring for health and well-being through risk prevention and protection, among other areas.

In addition, Grupo Catalana Occidente is adhered to the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) and related Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The group also has a Climate Change and Environmental Policy in place, in which it makes a firm commitment to ensuring continuous improvement in the areas of environmental performance and pollution prevention.
