Occident employees collect more than 350 kg of waste in a corporate volunteering activity in Barcelona, Madrid and Getxo

"Fundación Jesús Serra has organised, together with Fundación Ecomar, a corporate volunteering campaign to promote sustainability and the circular economy."

To celebrate Insurance Day, this year, the employees of Occident, the brand that will be joined by GCO's (Grupo Catalana Occidente)'s traditional business companies, have collected a total of 358.2 kg of waste. This was done through a corporate volunteering action organised by Fundación Jesús Serra, the insurance group's foundation, which took place on 8, 23 And 25 May at Fòrum Beach (Barcelona), Arrigúnaga Beach (Getxo), and at San Juan dam (Madrid), respectively. In the campaign, carried out together with the Ecomar Foundation, more than one hundred Occident volunteers helped to preserve the environment by collecting waste from their local waters.

In Barcelona, the volunteers collected more than 84 kg of waste; in Getxo, more than 116 kg of rubbish was cleared; and in Madrid, 157 kg. In the words of one of the campaign participants, Gemma Abad, "it is a very thing for Occident to promote this type of action, as it serves as a loudspeaker and helps to raise awareness among workers on a problem as deeply-rooted as pollution." In this regard, volunteers who participated in the waste collection initiative also held a workshop to examine the concepts of recycling, sustainability and the circular economy.

CEO of Fundación Jesús Serra, Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo, explained that "the Foundation's role is essential for constructing a common culture for the companies that comprise the Group, facilitating meetings and participation among all employees and their families across different programmes and actions." In this regard, Gallardo-Bravo stated that "by carrying out these corporate volunteering initiatives, we also manage to promote the commitment of Occident employees to society and the environment."
