"The company is introducing a comprehensive product with specific coverages and services designed to address the diverse needs of the population."
According to the latest data provided by Unespa, travel-related incidents have an average cost of €434, with health issues being one of the most common occurrences, followed by accidents and cancellations. In fact, 57.7% of the services provided by this type of insurance in 2023 were due to illness or hospitalisation, followed by accidents (12.4%), cancellations (6.8%), and the provision of information (6%). Aware of the unforeseen events that can occur while travelling, Occident has launched a travel insurance plan in collaboration with Europ Assistance to provide specific coverages and services tailored to meet its customers' needs for both domestic and international travel.
This product ensures coverage for various incidents and requirements that may arise during any journey, whether international or domestic, such as health issues requiring medical assistance, including medical repatriation by air within Europe; the interruption of the trip; travel disruptions, such as flight delays or cancellations; lost luggage and assistance with lost or stolen documents, along with various other travel assistance services. Additionally, this Occident product guarantees coverage if the traveller contracts COVID-19 during the trip, providing medical assistance and even the option to cancel the trip if necessary due to the illness.
According to Antonio Tejero, Director of Personal Insurance at Occident, "With this insurance, we aim to offer a comprehensive product that meets the consumption patterns of our society and the needs of our customers, ensuring they feel protected and supported during their travels".
Specifically, this new insurance is designed to cover three types of trips: first is the Leisure/Professional category, which can be purchased for a single trip lasting up to 12 months and is available in two versions, Plus and Premium, each offering different insured amounts. For example, in the Plus option, medical expenses abroad are insured up to €150,000, while in the Premium version, this amount increases to €300,000.
It is also possible to purchase the Leisure/Professional option as an annual renewable plan to cover all trips taken within the span of a year, provided that each trip does not exceed a maximum duration of three months.
The second category, Cruise, is designed specifically for this type of journey and can be purchased for trips lasting up to 12 months. The third category, Students, is aimed at providing peace of mind to families sending their children to study abroad and includes coverage for medical expenses up to €1 million, along with other benefits tailored to this type of stay, such as in-person psychological consultations, rehabilitation or physiotherapy expenses, and optical expenses due to accidents. This option can be purchased for stays of up to 12 months at the chosen destination.
Occident's new travel insurance product is available for both individual and group travel, offering coverage for people of all ages. Additionally, policyholders can choose to add optional coverage to their plan, including trip cancellation; sports coverage, which insures against incidents occurring before or during sports activities; and medical expenses for pre-existing conditions.
