Occident is sponsoring the Arriluze Txallenge, a charity swim event to raise awareness about leukodystrophies

"In this edition, the insurance company Occident has been prominently associated in the name of the swim event"

Approximately 250 individuals plunged into the water to participate in this initiative aimed at combating leukodystrophies, a collection of uncommon degenerative disorders.

Occident has been recognised as a sponsor of the Arriluze Txallenge 2024, an event involving a swimming crossing between the Getxo marina and Ereaga Beach. The Arriluze Txallenge has a dual purpose: raising awareness about leukodystrophies and collecting funds for research. The trial successfully raised over €10,000, which will be entirely donated to the Ela Europa association in their fight against leukodystrophies.

Leukodystrophies refer to a group of disorders characterised by the progressive degeneration of the brain’s white matter. This degeneration occurs due to either abnormal growth or imperfect development of the myelin sheath. The fatty layer serves as an insulating sheath around nerve fibres. When it deteriorates, it significantly impacts the nervous system’s function.

The substantial participation in this year’s Arriluze Txallenge underscores the community’s dedication, as well as Occident’s commitment, in the battle against rare diseases. Together, they support a solidarity initiative that seeks medical advancements and strives to enhance the daily lives of those impacted.
