Occidente, the new brand of Seguros Bilbao, promotes art and culture by sponsoring the Fair Saturday movement

"As a result, the brand that will unify the traditional business companies of GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente) prolongs the commitment that Seguros Bilbao has had with the movement for eight years."

Occidente, the new brand of Seguros Bilbao, underscores its commitment to art and culture through social impact by sponsoring the new edition of the Fair Saturday movement. Thus, the brand that will unify the traditional business companies of GCO extends for the eighth consecutive year the agreement that Seguros Bilbao had with this global initiative, which prioritises culture and social empathy for the most vulnerable in society.

In order to promote a fairer and more virtuous world that is sensitive to people's needs, the Fair Saturday cultural movement is holding an event on the last Saturday of November with activities related to art and culture, including music and theatre performances; all of them for the benefit of social causes chosen by the very artists taking part in the movement.

This new edition, which was held on Saturday, 25 November, greatly mobilised the public again, with more than 180 cultural organisations and groups of artists, spaces and social projects participating through a schedule of around 100 events.

Seguros Bilbao, through the Occident brand, thus reiterates its support for the movement in order to promote art and culture in Basque territory, as well as to work toward a more just and empathetic society. In the words of the Deputy Commercial Managing Director of the insurance company, José Manuel Ereño, "since our founding, Seguros Bilbao has promoted culture, arts and sport, since they have a great positive impact on our society". He went on to say that "we are proud to continue with this initiative through Occident, since it dignifies people and achieves a humanised development through culture and social empathy".

Meanwhile, the founder and director of the Fair Saturday Foundation, Jordi Albareda, expressed his gratitude to Seguros Bilbao and Occident for their continued support in organising this initiative. "With the collaboration of leading companies in our society, such as Seguros Bilbao and now, Occidente, we have managed to mobilise thousands of people for a common goal".

Since its inception, the Fair Saturday movement has added to its line-up thousands of cultural entities, social projects and artists, and has been present at 15 corporate headquarters and over 150 cities around the world. So far, eight editions have been organised in Bilbao-Bizkaia, totalling 500 events, 7,000 attendees and €250,000 raised for social projects.

About Occident

GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente) announced the merging of its traditional business companies (Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros, Seguros Bilbao and NorteHispana Seguros) under a single brand, Occident. This merger is part of the corporate simplification process that the insurance group put in motion years ago and aims to achieve a more streamlined organisation that responds quickly and effectively to market demands.

The unification process will be implemented in two phases: first, foreseeably at the end of 2023, the merger of Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros and Seguros Bilbao will take effect, which will then operate under the Occident brand. In a second phase, at a later date, NorteHispana Seguros will also be included.
