Occident is sponsoring the Martha Jungwirth exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

"From 7 June to 22 September, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is hosting a retrospective of the Austrian painter Martha Jungwirth, whose paintings and drawings explore the boundary between representation and abstraction."

Occident is once again promoting art and culture with its sponsorship of the “Martha Jungwirth” retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Curated by Lekha Waieman Waililler, the exhibition offers a journey featuring nearly seventy abstract pieces that encompass six decades of work by the artist. Martha Jungwirth's artwork will be shown in Spain for the first time since 1966, when she was awarded the Joan Miró Prize.

With a wide selection of watercolours and oils, the exhibition offers a complete overview of the work of this seminal figure in the Austrian art scene. The exhibition highlights the abstract style of the Viennese artist, which contains numerous allusions to the real world, from important people in her life to mythological themes, as well as current events and the history of art.

This sponsorship is part of Occident's collaboration agreement with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, as a Trustee of the institution since it opened to the public. The insurance company has collaborated with the cultural institution on numerous occasions to support research, teaching, social action and the arts. It has also contributed to publicising the work of leading figures in the modern and contemporary art scene, such as Gego, Yoko Ono and Lee Krasner.

In the words of the Managing Director of Occident, Juan Closa, “with the sponsorship of this retrospective, we are enhancing the visibility of the work of the painter Martha Jungwirth and again showing our commitment to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao so that it can carry out its goal of promoting arts and culture in society."

Juan Ignacio Vidarte, Managing Director of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, emphasised the importance of Occident's support which has allowed the exhibition to become a reality and thanked the insurance company for its support since the opening of the museum.
