Occident, the new Seguros Bilbao brand, promotes sport by renewing its sponsorship deal with Bilbao Basket

"The brand that will unify all the companies in the traditional GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente) business has maintained the sponsorship agreement that Seguros Bilbao had with the historic local sports club for the eleventh consecutive year."

Occident, the new brand that will integrate the traditional GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente) business, has become the official sponsor of the Bilbao Basket basketball club for the 2023-24 season. The insurer is maintaining the sponsorship agreement that Seguros Bilbao had with the club for the eleventh consecutive year, thus promoting sport in the Basuqe town.

Under the sponsorship agreement, Occident will give the club's sports campus its name at Christmas, Easter and in the summer, when it will be renamed "Campus Bilbao Basket-Occident". The brand will be present on the competitors' equipment, as well as in the communications and website of the campus. Similarly, as is already customary in this collaboration, the company will have a brand presence on different elements around the club, such as on the press conference screens, on the signage of the home team's bench, on the free throw area and on the video marker.

The agreement was signed at the Seguros Bilbao headquarters in a meeting attended by the president of Bilbao Basket, Isabel Iturbe, and the Seguros Bilbao deputy general commercial director, José Manuel Ereño. In Iturbe's words, "we appreciate the continued support that Seguros Bilbao has shown us over the years, and we are proud to have the backing of its new Occident brand from now on." Meanwhile, Ereño assured that "at this new stage we want to continue showing our support for sport at all levels, as well as promoting its values in society."

About Occident

(GCO) announced the merging of its traditional business companies (Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros, Seguros Bilbao and NorteHispana Seguros) under a single brand, Occident. This merger is part of the corporate simplification process that the insurance group put in motion years ago and aims to achieve a more streamlined organisation that responds quickly and effectively to market demands.

The unification process will be implemented in two phases: first, predictably at the end of 2023, the merger of Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros and Seguros Bilbao will take effect, which will then operate under the Occident brand. In a second phase, at a later date, NorteHispana Seguros will also be included.
