Seguros Catalana Occidente launches Personal Mobility, an innovative insurance policy that protects a person on their journeys regardless of the means of transport used

"The new product guarantees the user protection on their trips and journeys, whether they are in their own personal mobility vehicle (PMV), or a rented or shared vehicle, such as scooters or bicycles; public transport; taxi; or on walking routes. "

Seguros Catalana Occidente has added Personal Mobility to its insurance product range, a plan that protects the insured party on their daily journeys, however as they move about. The launch of this policy strengthens the commitment of insurer Grupo Catalana Occidente to customer orientation and the creation of products and services that adapt to the challenges of today's society, such as new forms of mobility.

The new Personal Mobility covers the insured party in all the risk situations generated by new urban mobility services, including rented vehicles and vehicle sharing; Personal mobility vehicles that are owned and/or shared, such as scooters and bicycles; public transport; taxi or tourist vehicles with driver; and also pedestrians.

Unlike the other insurance solutions on the market, this insurance is personal, thus responding to users who combine several means of transport on the same journey. In this regard, Private Customers Manager at Seguros Catalana Occidente, Antonio Tejero, explained that "traditionally, journeys made by car or motorbike are insured, but there are many journeys made by other modes of transport with a very low or non-existent level of insurance. Aware of this need, Personal mobility adapts to new ways of moving about that have gained ground, especially in urban environments."

The coverage protects users who have their own personal mobility vehicle or who use rented or shared vehicles against accidents and unforeseen events. In the event of a claim, the insurance includes the costs of damage caused to the vehicle and driver, theft, fire, civil liability and the cost of using an alternative transport service so that the insured person can reach their destination. In the rented and vehicle sharing modalities, this is a complementary product for the user, since coverage with the insurance coverage of the mobility providers themselves is not duplicated. Furthermore, the Seguros Catalana Occidente policy also guarantees roadside assistance costs and other expenses that the service provider may incur as a result of an accident.

Pedestrians and public transport users are also protected by Personal Mobility, which means that, in the event of an accident, Seguros Catalana Occidente will cover personal damages that may be incurred and personal civil liability. For their part, public transport users who suffer a loss or breakdown of their used means will be covered for the cost of using a complementary transport service, such as a taxi service or tourist vehicle with driver to get to their destination.

This new insurance product also includes additional services for any type of transport used. On the one hand, it has a legal advice and damage claim service, and on the other, legal defence. Lastly, there are two contracting modalities, either with or without an owned personal mobility vehicle.

This product is the result of the Xplora Intra-entrepreneurship programme

Personal mobility has been developed within Xplora, Grupo Catalana Occidente's innovation programme that promotes the organisation's cultural transformation through training plans, intra-entrepreneurial programmes for Group employees and an open innovation model through the Group's collaboration with startups, research centres and other institutions.

Grupo Catalana Occidente's Innovation Director, Laura Cots, stated that "the launch of this product forms part of the new mobility paradigm which, in addition to guaranteeing the security of our customers, offers autonomy, flexibility and immediacy." Cots added that "through initiatives such as Xplora, we have managed to take the pulse of the market and offer, in an agile way, proposals adapted to new trends, such as those related to new forms of urban mobility, population ageing, IoT (Internet of Things), and cybersecurity."

New mobility trends

According to data from the Cities Bicycle Network, in Spain there are more than 10 million people who use a bicycle with some frequency and more than one and a half million electric scooter users.  In a context of redefining travel methods used in cities, the launch of Personal Mobility positions Seguros Catalana Occidente as an insurer that responds to new mobility trends.

Committed to sustainability

Grupo Catalana Occidente offers its customers more sustainable solutions that are adapted to their needs. The group has developed different products and services, such as insurance for electric vehicles or sustainable renting, with the aim of promoting zero-emissions vehicles and bringing renewable energies closer to citizens.
