Seguros Bilbao, soon to become Occident, sponsors the Gego exhibition. Measuring Infinity at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao

"The exhibition is dedicated to the German-Venezuelan artist Gertrud Goldschmidt (Gego), whose career dedicated to art, research, innovation and teaching, spanned over four decades. "

Seguros Bilbao, soon to become Occident, promotes art and culture with its sponsorship of the retrospective exhibition of works by the German artist Gego. Measuring Infinity, at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao from 7 November 2023 to 4 February 2024. Curated by Geaninne Guérrez-Guimarães, the exhibition offers a full range of works by the German-Venezuelan artist Gertrud Goldschmidt, known as Gego, and analyses the formal and conceptual contributions of her work.

The retrospective features nearly 150 works, including sculptures, drawings and photographs, and offers a full view of the work of one of the most influential Latin American artists. The exhibition highlights Gego's multidisciplinary reach, revealing, as well as her uncompromising dedication to art, her work in research, innovation and teaching.

This sponsorship is part of Seguros Bilbao's collaboration agreement with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, as a Trustee of the institution. Since the start of the relationship between the two entities, the insurance company has sponsored several of the museum's projects, as well as exhibitions of works by leading figures in modern and contemporary art, such as Yoko Ono, Lee Krasner and Joana Vasconcelos.

In the words of José Manuel Ereño, Deputy Commercial Director of Seguros Bilbao: "our sponsorship has brought this exhibition closer to the public and we pay tribute to Gego, a leading figure among Latin American artists of the second half of the twentieth century." We are proud to accompany the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in its commitment to promoting arts and culture."

Juan Ignacio Vidarte, General Manager of the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao emphasised the importance of collaboration agreements with cultural organisations, and thanked the insurance company for its "continuous support since the opening of the museum".

Seguros Bilbao, Trustee of the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao

At the beginning of 2022, Seguros Bilbao renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao for a further five years. Thanks to this agreement, the insurance company was able to highlight its commitment to art and culture and remember its pioneering commitment 25 years ago as a Museum Trustee.

About Occident

GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente) announced the merging of its traditional business companies (Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros, Seguros Bilbao and NorteHispana Seguros) under a single brand, Occident. This merger is part of the corporate simplification process that the insurance group put in motion years ago and aims to achieve a more streamlined organisation that responds quickly and effectively to market demands.

The unification process will be implemented in two phases: first, predictably at the end of 2023, the merger of Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros and Seguros Bilbao will take effect, which will then operate under the Occident brand. In a second phase, at a later date, NorteHispana Seguros will also be included.
