The Fundación Jesús Serra Inclusive Spanish Alpine Skiing Cup successfully closes a special edition

"This year, the second year of the cup, included three national trials, which took place at Baqueira Beret, Formigal-Panticosa and Sierra Nevada ski stations. "

This winter season, Fundación Jesús Serra (of Grupo Catalana Occidente) in colaboration with the Adapted Winter Sports Centre (CDIA) promoted a new edition of the inclusive Alpine skiing cup, which has just drawn to a close.  The championship was held in Baqueira Beret (29-30 January), Sierra Nevada (26-27 March) and Formigal-Panticosa (2-3 April) and allowed competitive activity to resume after the haitus caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The aims of the Fundación Jesús Serra Spanish Cup, the only inclusive national circuit, are to develop an integrated competition that is a national reference and to promote the coexistence of sportspeople with and without disabilities, seeking standardisation through sport.

The competition includes all the adapted sports of the Spanish Sports Federation for Persons with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF) and the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Cerebral Paralysis and Acquired Brain Injury (FEDPC) and the U10, U12 and Masters categories for athletes without disabilities of The Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI).

"We are very proud and hopeful for the good reception that the inclusive Alpine skiing circuit we promote has received, as we consider it strategic in our promotion of adapted and inclusive sports competitions. One of the essential missions of Fundación Jesús Serra is to preserve the principle of equal opportunities, in any area of life; and naturally this includes sport." said Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo, CEO of Fundación Jesús Serra.

"After the break due to the pandemic, thanks to the work of all the federations (FEDDF, FEDPC and RFEDI) and the clubs involved in the organisation (White Camps, Formigal Skiing Club and MAC Club), we have successfully achieved our priority goal, which was to reactivate the competition," explained Andrés Gómez, director of the CDIA. "We also place a high value on the participation in the circuit and the launch, for the first time, of the three branches" he concluded.

In total, the competition included, among athletes with and without disabilities, 250 participants from the three ski resorts. The Grand Slalom (GS) event held in Formigal-Panticosa put the final point on the 21/22 season's Cup circuit, which concluded with a very positive reception by the athletes, clubs and entities involved.
