"Your city is full of pianos" is coming to Córdoba and Valle de los Pedroches

"The initiative of the Fundación Jesús Serra and the Maria Canals Competition, in collaboration with the Fundación Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, the cultural arm of COVAP, is coming to the province of Córdoba on 20 and 21 April to offer everyone in the province a few days to enjoy pianos and music."

The Fundación Jesús Serra, of the Grupo Catalana Occidente, and the Maria Canals International Music Competition will be bringing back to the city the joy of playing the piano with their initiative “Your city is full of pianos”. On this occasion, the initiative will be staged in collaboration with the Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno Foundation over two days, during which Córdoba, which is home to a World Heritage site, as well as four municipalities in Valle de los Pedroches, will be filled with the most beautiful notes emanating from grand pianos. Specifically, on Thursday, 20 April, five pianos will be placed in Pozoblanco, Hinojosa del Duque, Dos Torres and Villanueva de Córdoba, while on Friday, 21 April, it will be the turn of the province's capital city as eight grand pianos located in iconic points throughout Córdoba fill it with sound.

On Thursday, 20 April, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the pianos will be located in Plaza de Santa Catalina and Avenida Villanueva de Córdoba in Pozoblanco; Plaza de la Catedral in Hinojosa del Duque; Plaza de la Villa in the town of Dos Torres; and in Plaza de España in Villanueva de Córdoba. On the same day, at 8:30 p.m., Jonathan Mamora, winner of the 2023 Maria Canals Competition, will offer a free concert at the Teatro el Silo in Pozoblanco.

On Friday, 21 April, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the pianos will be available for people to enjoy in some of Córdoba's most iconic landmarks, such as: Plaza de las Tendillas, Plaza de la Corredera, Puerta del Puente, Plaza de Colón, and others. The goal is to surprise residents and visitors alike so they can enjoy this cultural initiative.

The pianos will be made available to professional musicians, students from the music conservatory, children and enthusiasts, who will turn Córdoba into an enormous open-air music hall. The instruments will include one grand piano, usually only played in large concert halls, which will exceptionally be made available to the public for one day to play and enjoy.

The 8 pianos will be placed in the following locations in Córdoba:

1 - Plaza de las Tenillas

2 - Calle Cruz Conde, Calle Góngora

3 - Bulevar

4 - Calle Capitulares

5 - Avenida de la Libertad (near the professional conservatory)

6 - Plaza de la Corredera

7 - Puerta del Puente

8 - Plaza de Colón

The day's highlights can be shared on social media through photos, videos and messages with the hashtag #PianosCordoba.

The “Your city is full of pianos” project invites the public to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment through music. It is one of the highlights organised jointly by the Fundación Jesús Serra and the Maria Canals Competition to bring music closer to everyone in Spain.

"For more than five years, our Cultural Foundation and the Maria Canals International Piano Competition have been working closely to bring our towns in the north of the province closer to the wonderful instrument that is the piano, an activity that now, thanks to the Fundación Jesús Serra, can also be enjoyed in the streets of Córdoba proper, thus turning something we always had in mind into reality", says Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, chairman of COVAP.

"Returning to Andalusia and bringing the ‘Your city is full of pianos’ initiative to Córdoba is very important for us. It really is a privilege to be able to bring music closer to one of the most beautiful World Heritage cities in Spain. We are also doing so at a very important time for the Fundación Jesús Serra, since this year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary", says the director of the Fundación Jesús Serra, Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo.

The director of the Maria Canals Competition, Jordi Vivancos, also noted the importance of this project. "’Your city is full of pianos’ is a very special initiative that lets us bring music and the piano closer to society, discover new piano talents and encourage participation in the prestigious Maria Canals International Music Competition, which held its 68th edition this year”, he explained.

The close collaboration between the Fundación Jesús Serra and the Maria Canals Competition has allowed this cultural activity to take place in several cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Sevilla, Cádiz, Málaga, Salamanca, Toledo, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, León, Granada, San Sebastián, Zaragoza, Cáceres and Santander. After Córdoba, the initiative will travel to Palma de Mallorca on 5 May and to Madrid on 22 September.
