Fundación Occident, of GCO (Grupo Catalana Occidente), and the Maria Canals International Music Competition, in collaboration with Girona City Council and Fundación La Ciutat Invisible, are bringing the 'Your city is full of pianos' initiative to Girona on Friday 4 October with seven grand pianos, two of them semi-concert grand pianos, distributed over iconic sites throughout the city.

The seven pianos will be available between 11 am and 8 pm to professional musicians, music students, amateur musicians, teachers and students, children, and anyone else who wants to enjoy this unique and enriching initiative.

The seven pianos will be located in the following spots:

1.- Plaça de Sant Feliu

2.- Plaça de la Independència

3.- Plaça del Vi

4.- Rambla/ Carrer de l’Argenteria

5.- Carrer de les Hortes/ Santa Clara

6.- Pont de Pedra/Rambla

7.- Casa de Cultura

The day's highlights can be shared on social media through photos, videos and messages using the hashtag #PianosGirona.

We are very happy that the streets of Girona will be filled with pianos, music and culture. This is a great initiative to bring culture closer to the public and make it more accessible, a goal that we fully share at the City Council of Girona,” says Quim Ayats Bartrina, deputy mayor and councillor for culture at Girona City Council.

The 'Your city is full of pianos' programme aims to promote the dissemination and practice of music though public involvement. It is one of the leading activities organised jointly by Fundación Occident and the Maria Canals Competition to bring music closer to the entire Spanish population.

We are thrilled to bring the initiative to Girona, a city so involved with culture and that we are well aware of our collaboration with the Fundació Ciutat Invisible and our project “Poetízate. Poesía en las aulas" (Get into Poetry. Poetry in the classrooms). We hope everyone will get to know this special musical day and encourage all the residents and visitors to enjoy these seven pianos that will undoubtedly liven up the city’s streets,” says the director of Fundación Occident, Ignacio Gallardo-Bravo.

Furthermore, Jordi Vivancos, director of the Maria Canals Competition, stresses the importance of this initiative through which “we have brought music and the piano closer to the whole of society as well as helping us to encourage participation in the Maria Canals International Music Competition”.

The close collaboration between Fundación Occident and the Maria Canals Competition has allowed this cultural activity to take place in cities all over Spain, including Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Seville, Cádiz, Málaga, Salamanca, Toledo, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, León, Granada, San Sebastián, Zaragoza, Cáceres, Santander, Córdoba, Palma de Mallorca and Valladolid. After Girona, the initiative will be taking place in Madrid on 25 October 2024.
